The museum offers themed tours of the permanent collections and the Galerie des Beaux-Arts for temporary exhibitions.
The tours are interactive and allow young visitors to discover the museum, the types of works (paintings and sculptures) or a more specific theme depending on their class project. The museum guides lead the tour, adapting it to the school level of the pupils and allowing them to express their emotions.
First discovery of the museum (45 minutes)
Recommended for children aged 2-4 years.
The museum is a very large space for adults and even more so for young visitors. This tour focuses on the 19th and 20th century collections (Bonheur wing). Pupils are introduced to some of the most important paintings and sculptures, and wander from one work to another.
Lacour des animaux (45 minutes)
Pupils explore the museum’s rooms on the theme of animal representations in the Lacour wing, named after the museum’s first director (16th-18th century collections).
Au Bonheur des animaux (45 minutes)
Pupils follow a trail on the theme of animal representation in the wing named after Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899), the star of 19th-century animal painting (19th-20th century collections).
Painted and sculpted bodies (1h)
Artists have always sought to portray their peers. Whether painted or sculpted, they depict the naked body or use draping techniques when the subject is clothed. This tour takes pupils from one wing to another.
Children first ! (45 minutes)
From faithful reproduction to interpretation, pupils observe the diverse styles and formats chosen by 19th- and 20th-century artists to paint or sculpt children.
