As a prelude to the exhibition entitled “Sage comme une image ? Childhood in the eyes of the artist 1790-1850” (10 July-3 November 2025, Galerie des Beaux-Arts), this exhibition on the theme of childhood has been produced by the Public Services Department and features around fifty paintings, sculptures, medals and graphic works from the museum's collections, from the 17th to the 20th century.

These artworks, as sources of memories and poetic reveries, have inspired the childhood stories told by patients and carers at Cadillac Hospital (day hospital and part-time therapy centre in Villenave-d'Ornon), and by residents and senior citizens at the Grand Bon Pasteur nursing home resource centre, as part of the museum’s off-site activities. All the participants shared their favourite memories and chose one of the artworks in the exhibition to comment on during writing and art workshops.
