Barbara Schroeder, grew up in the countryside, and now takes her inspiration in peasant materials, practices, and stories. They permit her to create works rooted in the living world. Porcelain, cow dung, potatoes, and everyday agricultural tools become the memory of a rural world whose customs and values are threatened.

The artist Barbara Schroeder proposes a contemporary counterpoint to François-André Vincent's masterpiece, The Ploughing Lesson (1798), inviting us to look at the rural world with a new perspective. Far from being a simple celebration of the countryside, her installation questions our relation to the land and to those who cultivate it.

In a changing agricultural world, this work becomes an act of transmission and resistance. This dialogue with The Ploughing Lesson also illuminates a crucial distinction in its approach: one between agriculture and peasantry. The latter is not limited to the production of resources; it embodies a way of life and a way of thinking about our relationship to the environment.
This installation of six recent pieces invites us to reflect on the value and meaning of peasant work, to recognize the beauty and resilience of the gestures it involves, and to question our responsibility towards living things.
